When my clients moved from California to Southwest Washington a few years ago, they found a gorgeous home on four acres in Camas. The elegant 2004 Traditional Tuscan home has the elegance of a grand estate but it needed to fit the clients great style.
The couple hired Sharon Hocking Interior Design to update the homes furnishings. That was our first project. When they decided to do a complete bathroom update, they called on me again for the design and space planning of their large ensuite master bathroom remodel. While the space was large, the layout was very awkward, with little counter space and a gigantic behemoth angled Jacuzzi tub and gas fireplace in the center of the room, yikes.
Our Process & Project Launch
These California clients were not used to the lack of sunny days in the PNW. So one of the first needs was more natural light for this room. The windows with great southern exposure were blocked by the large tub and fireplace. The tub was rarely used, yet took up significant real estate. There was very little useable counter space, and the whole room was just out of date and did not function well. Here were our goals:
Create a more functional layout
Replace the dated and poor-functioning elements
Add contemporary elements yet keep design cohesive with the home.
More natural light !!
Bathroom Renovation Revealed
I reconfigured the entire space to take advantage of the natural light, placing the sinks and vanity at the large window facing south. I borrowed space from an adjacent room to add a curbless walk-in shower, used rift white oak for the cabinetry, created a custom built-in linen cabinet, installed honed quartz countertops, placed a beautiful freestanding bathtub by the other large window, added skylights for more natural light infusing in.
"We are beyond thrilled with our new master ensuite! We love coming in here in the morning to the light and bright and beautiful space. It was so worth all the planning and construction to now live in this beautiful space. We had no idea it could look this good! Sharon was so creative and patient with us and I am so glad I listened to her and trusted her vision. " C.Doherty
One of the many advantages I offer clients, is my experience in working contractors. I brought in Mountainwood Homes to complete this project. Their team is great to work with and they know how
to actually make my designs come to fruition. I highly recommend the team at Mountainwood Homes.
